No „Cell“ processor for the PS3?
April 18, 2003 - Online news sites are reporting that the spring 2003 issue of Electronic Design Chain, an electronics trade magazine, features PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi on the cover, and also contains very surprising news about the Playstation 3.
According to the reports, Kutaragi mentions that final production of the „Cell“ chip, originally thought to be used in the PlayStation 3, may not be ready until 2007. He also confirms that the CPU in the PlayStation 3 will in fact not be the Cell processor, contrary to earlier reports.
With a targeted PlayStation 3 launch in 2005/2006, delayed production of the Cell processor may have caused Sony to find a different solution for their next-generation console. Check back with IGN for more news as it happens.

18.04.03 - Tohsiba, Japans größter Chip-Hersteller, wird finanzielle Unterstützung von Sony beim Bau einer Chip-Fabrik im Süden Japans bekommen. Die Höhe der finanziellen Hilfe ist noch unklar.
Insgesamt sollen zwei neue Chip-Fabriken errichtet werden, deren Kosten bei etwa Euro 2,7 Mrd (Yen 350 Mrd / USD 2,9 Mrd) liegen.
Die neue Fabrik soll auch Chips für die PlayStation3 herstellen, u.a. ‚Cell‘. Durch die Unterstützung von Toshiba will Sony die Produktion der Chips sicherstellen.[/b]
Das heißt ja nicht, dass der Chip dann auch schon 2005 fertig ist, wenn die 2 neue Produktionsstätte haben. Bin mal gespannt ob die wirklich dann erst später auf den Markt kommen?

Schau dir mal den Artikel an, auf den GameFront sich beruft. Da wird nichts von der Cell Technologie erwähnt, alles reine Spekulation, dass die neue Produktionsstätte dafür dienen soll.
Und warum sollte ein Interview mit Kutaragi unglaubwürdiger sein als Gamefront?
